Club Med South Africa resort receives final approval ahead of 2026 opening

The Club Med South Africa Beach and Safari resort in Tinley Manor has officially reached a major milestone after being granted its occupation certificate, confirming that construction of the large-scale tourism development is now complete.

The project, located in KwaZulu-Natal, represents one of the province’s most significant tourism investments in recent years and is now preparing for operational rollout ahead of its planned opening in July 2026.

Major infrastructure and compliance milestone achieved

The occupation certificate was formally handed over during an on-site ceremony attended by KwaDukuza Municipality officials and project stakeholders. The approval confirms that the 54,000 square metre development, consisting of 64 buildings, meets all regulatory and compliance standards required for operation.

According to project reports, the approval process involved extensive documentation, including multiple submission packages and thousands of compliance certificates. This included electrical safety approvals and other technical sign-offs required for large-scale developments.

The project also required substantial infrastructure investment, including new water pipelines, medium-voltage electricity connections, and engineering works beneath major transport routes to ensure reliable access and utility supply.

Developers described the process as highly collaborative, involving close coordination with local government authorities from early planning stages through to final approval.

Tourism and economic benefits expected

Local officials have welcomed the development, describing it as a key investment for the region. KwaDukuza Municipality representatives noted that the resort is expected to generate employment opportunities and contribute to long-term tourism growth along the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast.

Project stakeholders say the resort has been designed to meet international hospitality standards, positioning it as a potential driver of increased global tourism interest in the region.

With approval now secured, operational preparations have begun, including staff recruitment and training. A phased soft launch is planned ahead of the official opening in 2026.

The project forms part of broader efforts to expand South Africa’s tourism infrastructure and attract high-value international visitors, particularly in coastal and eco-tourism segments.
