South African television personality and rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been arrested in Gauteng following allegations that he kidnapped an e-hailing driver and discharged a firearm during a confrontation reportedly linked to a personal relationship dispute.
Police confirmed that the arrest took place in Edenvale on the East Rand on Sunday morning, 14 June 2026. The incident has once again placed the controversial entertainer in the public spotlight after years of legal battles and high-profile court cases.
According to Gauteng police, the confrontation allegedly began after Maarohanye suspected that an e-hailing driver was involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.
Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 7:30am and quickly escalated into a criminal matter.
Driver reportedly escaped and alerted police
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said investigators were informed that the suspect allegedly forced the driver into a vehicle and prevented him from leaving.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.
Police stated that the driver was able to escape without sustaining injuries. After fleeing the scene, he reportedly drove directly to a nearby police station where he opened a criminal case and provided a statement to officers.
Law enforcement officials responded immediately and arrested Maarohanye a short time later.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether additional charges may be added as the investigation progresses. Police also have not released details regarding the firearm allegedly used during the incident.
Maarohanye is expected to make his first court appearance at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on 15 June 2026.
New arrest revives attention on previous legal controversies
The latest allegations have reignited public discussion surrounding Maarohanye’s lengthy history of legal challenges.
In 2024, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew all charges previously brought against the entertainer in connection with allegations made by his former girlfriend, actress Amanda du-Pont, and other complainants.
The case attracted widespread national attention after du-Pont publicly accused Maarohanye of rape in 2022. Following her allegations, several other women came forward with similar claims involving incidents allegedly dating back to between 2006 and 2009.
As a result, Maarohanye faced 13 charges, including rape, attempted murder and assault. He later handed himself over to authorities and was released on R10,000 bail after appearing in court.
However, after reviewing the available evidence, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions concluded that there was no reasonable prospect of securing a successful prosecution.
The decision led to the withdrawal of all charges against the entertainer in July 2024.
The current case is unrelated to those previous allegations, but it marks another legal challenge for one of South Africa’s most recognisable and controversial media personalities.
Police investigations into the alleged kidnapping and firearm incident remain ongoing.
